Weekly Geeks # 19 Favorite Books (so far) of 2008

This weeks instructions from Dewey for Weekly Geeks was to:

"1. Compile your list of favorites. Please be sure that books you choose actually were published in 2008, or at the very earliest in the winter holiday season of 2007 Sometimes books that come out then are left out.
2. Come back and sign Mr Linky with the url to your top books of 2008 post.
3. If you happen to see any non-WG bloggers making similar lists, please grab the url and come put it in Mr Linky for them. Let them know you’re doing that, please, in case they have some sort of objection; if they do, they can ask me to remove their link. I’ve already seen a couple favorites of 2008 posts, which is another reason I wanted to get started early.
4. Feel free to make changes to your list if you read something new in the next few weeks. After about October 25, I can’t guarantee your changes will be reflected in the master list. We’ll probably start compiling lists around then.
5. Please consider whether you’d like to help me compile lists."

I have a list of books published this year that I gave 5 stars to. I really hate to compile a list so early because there are books that I just haven't gotten to yet, not to mention the ones not released yet. But I will go with the flow and hope that the books starting from October through December of this year will be counted on next years list. And I am sure that there will be books that get mentioned by others that may end up being some of my favorites when I read them. So here, in no particular order, is my favorites (so far) of 2008:

Duma Key- Stephen King
The Translator: A Tribesman's Memoir of Darfur by Daoud Hari
People of the Book- Geraldine Brooks
The Opposite of Love- Julie Buxbaum
The Host- Stephenie Meyer
The Shack- William P. Young
The Wolfman- Nickolas Pekearo
Child 44- Tom Rob Smith
Wicked Game- Jeri Smith-Ready
Sweetsmoke- David Fuller
The Heretic's Daughter- Kathleen Kent
Driving Sideways- Jess Riley

Duma Key is on my list as well. I love it when Stephen King gets it so absolutely right. :)

Wow, fantastic eclectic list, just the kind I like ;o). I'm sad to say that I haven't read any of these books, yet. But The Host has been on my TBR list for awhile now and I've added Duma Key, The Translator, Wicked Game, and the Heretic's Daughter...jeez, my wishlist is hating me at the moment ;o).

Oh I forgot all about Duma Key! What a great book that was, very creepy.
I have Wicked Game and Driving Sideways on my wishlist.
The Shack was a book I was so looking forward to, but I ended up so disappointed. However I am glad you enjoyed it.
